CORDOVA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A college scholarship that once served only Charleston County students is now expanding to high school seniors across South Carolina. The Meeting Street Scholarship Fund expanded statewide following lawmakers’ approval of nearly $19 million in annual funding. About 200 high school seniors from Orangeburg County gathered to hear about the program, with roughly 40 expected to qualify for financial help.Edisto High School student Reginald Jefferson said the opportunity was important to him. “For them to do this, it means a lot to me personally because my parents had a struggle a lot to go to college because they are the first people out of my family to go to college,” Jefferson said. “And they want me to go to college as well, you know, to carry on the torch. So to have somebody outside of them supporting me and help me transition through this process is really valuable to them.”Organizers estimate nearly 3,000 seniors across the state could receive the award, w
