HONEA PATH, S.C. - A longtime neighbor and an off-duty South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officer are credited with getting an elderly couple out of a burning home off Hampton Avenue on Oct. 24.The neighbor, Donovan Devlin, said the outcome was more than luck.Devlin said his mother was visiting when he opened his blinds and saw smoke pouring from his neighbors’ home.“I saw the smoke boiling out of top of their house right there. I just said ‘what in the world’ and I started running,” Devlin said.Devlin said he went to the home and broke down the door.At the same time, SCDNR said Will Sutton, who was off-duty was at home having dinner with his family when his son told him that a neighboring house was on fire.Officer Sutton immediately notified dispatch, requested emergency assistance and rushed to the burning home, according to officials.Officials said Officer Sutton found one of the residents who was bed-ridden, lifted her from her bed and carried her across the street.“Wil
