EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - CSRA residents gathered this morning at Evans Towne Center Park for the eighth annual Walk for Water. The event raises awareness of underprivileged communities around the world. Participants carry empty buckets and fill them with water during the walk. “Two billion people had to do the same thing this morning, except there’s no filtration system where they’re going,” Jeff Kertscher, a Walk for Water spokesperson, said. “And they have to strain out that water, use it to drink, to cook, to bathe, everything, all their water needs.”Kertscher said women and children often carry 5-gallon buckets. “We’re having a great time, we’re walking for fun, but we recognize that people across the world have to walk for survival,” Kertscher said." And so, our goal is to eliminate that."Since the first event, Walk for Water has raised more than $250,000 for clean water initiatives worldwide.
