Ga. first responders share Halloween safety tips ahead of Saturday night — Augusta Health news

ROSWELL, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - First responders are asking parents, children and drivers to be safe on Halloween night, which falls on a Saturday this year.Roswell Police Department Officer Tim Lupo said increased police vigilance focuses mostly on younger people.“There are a lot of young people who are out, and young people can be unpredictable,” Lupo said.Lupo said parents and kids can take steps to stay safe without ruining a costume.“You can attach some reflective tape to a portion of your clothing to make sure that as light does pass it, that it provides some extra visibility,” Lupo said.Chad Miller, captain of emergency management for the Roswell Fire Department, said where children cross the street is important.“If you have to cross the street, it makes a huge difference when you cross the street at a corner — at an intersection — rather than crossing during a straightaway,” Miller said.Miller said children are twice as likely to be hit on Halloween night as the average pedestrian.S
